Attorney Nicholas J. Skorzewski
Bar Admission: South Carolina
Nick Skorzewski is a Partner and Attorney at Cavanaugh & Thickens, LLC, a reputable South Carolina personal injury and workers compensation law firm. Since being founded in 2017, Cavanaugh & Thickens, LLC has recovered millions of dollars in compensation for victims of accidents, including car, truck, and on the job accidents.
Nick joined the team in 2020, launching the firm’s workers’ compensation practice, which quickly became a highly regarded and award-winning practice. The team’s dedication to fighting for injured workers has led Cavanaugh & Thickens, LLC, to be named the “Best Workers’ Compensation Firm in Columbia, SC” by FreeTimes for three years in a row, and Nick has received numerous awards and accolades, including Best Lawyers: Ones to Watch from 2022-2024, Super Lawyers: Rising Stars from 2023-2025, and more.
While attending college, Nick worked on an assembly line at a large manufacturing plant in Greer, South Carolina. Following law school, Nick worked for a large, multi-state defense firm. There, he represented insurance carriers exclusively in workers’ compensation matters and handled numerous cases from initial injury notice to settlement or trial. These experiences gave Nick a unique perspective into the struggles of dealing with a work injury, as well as the legal process. This laid the foundation for his passion for helping injured employees seek justice and compensation after an unexpected work accident, especially when they are being treated unfairly by insurance carriers or employers.
“I love speaking with clients, hearing their concerns, and helping them find the right solutions. In workers’ compensation, clients don’t get to choose their doctors, which can be incredibly frustrating. I’ve had my own difficulties
navigating the medical system, so I understand how overwhelming it can be. Being able to advocate for people and make sure they feel heard and supported, that’s what makes this work so fulfilling.”
Nick grew up in Simpsonville, South Carolina but has lived in the Midlands since attending the University of South Carolina, where attended both undergraduate and law school. He is an active member of South Carolina Bar, Richland County Bar, South Carolina Association for Justice, and Injured Workers’ Advocates.
Nick currently lives in Lexington, South Carolina with his wife and children. When he isn’t practicing law, he enjoys spending time with his family, coastal and inland fishing, woodworking, and watching South Carolina Gamecock athletics.
